Aditya lahkar is the Secretary General of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samity (MASS)

I am sending below the basic information regarding the arrest of our secretary generalAditya Lahkar  and his wife Geetanjal. Please do, what you may think as needful.

Aditya lahkar is the Secretary General of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samity (MASS)

Aditya lahkar(50) S/o late harendra Nath lahkar and his wife Mrs  Geetanjali Lahkar(32), Vill &  P.O Lashima, P.S- Sarthebari,Dist- Barpeta.was .

  On late night of 17 th August, a police party from Tihu Police station of Nalbari district raid the  house of Aditya lahkar and Both Aditya and his wife Geetanjali were arrested by Police . They were arrested in conection of  Tihu P.S case No-69/2013 under section 10/13/18 of U.A.P.A. As per Ajahar of the police Both the acused has  close  link with anti-talk ULFA..They help ULFA by collecting and providing Phone Number of  Resourseful persons,which the baned organization used for extortion.It is noteworty to mention that on 15 th August another organising secretary of MASS Mr.Barun Talukdar was also arrested by the Same Tihu  police Station on same case .And on same charges. Now Barun Talukdar is also in Nalbari Jail.

 On 19 th August,police produce both of them in front of judicial magistrate.Same day Geetanjali was send to Judicial custody. Police prayed for  two days to took Aditya in their custody, which was allowed by magistrate. Aditya was sent to Nalbari jail i.e judicial custody on 20 th August.

   In front of media Aditya strongly denied the charges of police. He told the media persons, that he is targeted by police only because of his activity in the field of human rights movement, as he had always  been raising his voice against state terrorism and human rights violation. We ,  MASS is of the same opinion.

  MASS already strongly condemn the arrest of Aditya Lahkar and his Wife Geetanjali Lahkar. In protest of the arrest of Aditya and his wife MASS  hold  a SIT IN STRICK  Protest program on 23 rd August, at Lakhidhar Bora Khetra of Dighalipukhuri,Guwahati demanding the withdowal of false case against Aditya and other activist of MASS and their immediate release. MASS has also sent memmorendum to Governor of Assam demanding the release of Aditya Lahkar & his  wife Geetanjali lahkar. and to stop harassment on Human Rights defender.
